Gor handed Muguna boost ahead of CAF job

Gor Mahia FC have been handed a boost ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash with DC Motema Pembe with captain Kenneth Muguna returned to training following a one-week absence alongside his assistant Joash Onyango.

Gor CEO Lordvic Aduda says Muguna appeared and had lengthy talks with coach Steve Pollach and had matters at stake resolved.

“Muguna was present yesterday and had lengthy talks with the coach and reached an amicable solution. So we are hopeful he will feature for us on Sunday against DC Motema Pembe at Kasarani’’.

It is not very clear what could have kept Muguna and Onyango away but in an earlier interview, club chairman Ambrose Rachier attributed it to non payment of two month salaries which he said could be the cause of their absence.

Aduda added that they are expecting Kenyan international defender Joash Onyango to show up today and believe K’Ogalo will be full squad ahead of Motema Pembe arrival on Friday.

The week long absence of the duo has caused a lot of speculation with the club admitting that they are broke and unable to pay monthly salaries following the exit of their former betting firm sponsors who closed shop in Kenya following a long standing  tax raw with the government.

Ever since taking over the arm band following the departure of Haron Shakava, Muguna has been a cog in Gor’s midfield and has been instrumental in set pieces that have led to goals and even put his name on the score sheet severally.

Last weekend, Gor won 1-0 against Kariobangi Sharks in Nakuru without Muguna and Onyango but only found the winner courtesy of Francis Afriyie’s stoppage time goal.

“My focus is on players who are available and I have confidence in them,” Pollack said after their win.

DC Motema Pembe arrive on Friday 3pm for the first leg of the two legged knockout tie with the aggregate winner proceeding to the next round. Last season Gor made it to the quarter finals under coach Hassan Oktay who since left the club.
