Gor launch title defence against Tusker, Leopards face Stima

Defending champions Gor Mahia will begin their FKF Premier League (FKFPL) title defence away against 11-time winners Tusker FC on November 21.

According to the tentative fixtures released Wednesday and which are subject to review, depending on whether the government will finally give contact sports the green light to resume, Gor Mahia will subsequently host Ulinzi Stars  in their second match a week later.

Gor Mahia’s arch-rivals AFC Leopards will launch their quest for the elusive title against Western Stima before confronting newly promoted Bidco United eight days later. Ingwe will then host Zoo Kericho in the first Friday of December.

FKF Cup holders Bandari FC will host Zoo Kericho at Mbaraki Grounds on November 21 before making a long trip to Kisumu to face Western Stima, eight days later.

With Kenyan Premier League Limited’s mandate to run the country’s top-flight football having expired last month, FKF will oversee the league running under FKF Premier League name.

KPL Limited  has been running the Kenya’s top-tier league since 2003; when it was formed to curb the constant wrangles between the Federation and the top-tier clubs.

Gor Mahia retained the title in 2019-20 season after the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) threw out the league managers’ appeal over FKF’s decision to award the champions the title after cancelling the season due to COVID-19.

FKF made the decision to cancel the season in April citing the Force Majeure clause in its football rules due to the forced-stoppage occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic.
