Gor, Leopards Sunday clash is on- Oguda

Kenyan Premier League Chief Executive Officer, Jack Oguda, has confirmed Sunday’s Mashemeji Derby is on after receiving assurances from Kenya Police there will be enough security to man the game.

Eternal rivals, champions Gor Mahia and table-topping AFC Leopards will clash in the first SportPesa Premier League derby of the season at Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani starting at 4pm.

Oguda said the Nairobi Deputy County Police Commander, Japheth Koome, had assured them there will be enough officers at the fiercest games in Kenyan football after fears it would be postponed due to the First Lady Half Marathon that will be held at Nyayo Stadium earlier in the day.

“The derby has been confirmed for 4:00pm on Sunday Mar 6, Kasarani #SportPesaDerby. This has been agreed upon by the Deputy County Commander whose support has been invaluable and guarantees security,” Oguda tweeted on Friday, ending the doubts over the game.

Leopards go to the game as slight favourites after charging to second in the SPL table on seven points, behind leaders Mathare United on goal difference while Gor are languishing in 11th and yet to register victory.
