Gor lose to Sofapaka as former boss Ze Maria moves on

Local giants Gor Mahia FC began life without former manager Jose Marcelo ‘Ze Maria’ Ferreira on a sour note on a day the Brazilian was unveiled as Head Coach for relegated Albanian Premier League side KF Tirana.

Sofapaka delivered the club’s first defeat in five matches, winning 2-0 at the Kinoru Stadium on Sunday to cut the gap between them to four points and granting Tusker FC the chance to go top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) for the first time this season.

Champions Tusker battled to a barren draw away at Kariobangi Sharks but the point was enough to lift them top, one point above Gor, as their seven-match winning streak came to a halt.

Bandari FC versus Western Stima produced the second and only other goalless draw across the KPL with Kakamega Homeboyz and Zoo Kericho sharing the spoils after six-goal epic.

At the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Ulinzi Stars fought back to earn a 1-1 draw and earn a point against Sony Sugar. Amos Asembeka had put the visitors in front after 22 minutes before Stephen Waruru cancelled it out at the hour mark.

In Meru, striker Ezekiel Okare put Sofapaka into an eary lead in the 12th minute before Timothy Luda doubled the advantage for the hosts six minutes after the restart.
