Gor Mahia assistant coach Zico Otieno resigns

Gor Mahia FC assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has resigned from his role, ending his two-and-a-half-year stay at the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club.

Zico tendered his resignation on Friday indicating he wants to further his studies although the veteran tactician has strongly been linked to a move to manage another KPL side, KCB FC as its head coach.

Gor’s chairman Ambrose Rachier  told Citizen Digital on Saturday morning he was processing Zico’s resignation acceptance letter and paid tribute for his contribution to their historic season that saw them achieve their best ever CAF Confederation Cup finish as well as a third straight KPL title.

“He did not specify whether it’s a study to improve his coaching badges or education but he has been a dedicated servant for this club so we wish him well,” Rachier said.

The former Harambee Stars defender’s first coaching stint at Gor was in 2010 before briefly moving to manage the national team and then back to K’Ogalo in 2011.

He then switched to Sony Sugar and then Posta Rangers before returning to serve as Gor’s assistant manager in 2017 under Brazilian coach Jose ‘Ze Maria’ Ferreira.
