Gor Mahia draw against AFC Leopards to maintain unbeaten run

The match, dubbed Mashemeji Derby, was the 77th meeting between the two most followed clubs in the country and saw Gor Mahia stretch their unbeaten run to 5 out of 5. This is, however, the first match of the season that Gor Mahia have dropped points, having won all the last 4.

Gor Mahia’s keeper Boniface Oluoch was called upon to make several saves at the beginning of the match as AFC Leopards made known their intention by launching several attacks.

Gor Mahia settled in the match as the first half progressed with Ali Abondo giving the visitors their goal in the 34th minute. Efforts by Kogalo to stretch the lead before half time were meet by the resilience of a hard working Ingwe defence led by Captain Jackson Saleh and Goalkeeper Wycliffe Kasaya.

AFC Leopards coach Zdravko Logarusic made some changes in the second half bringing in Bernard Mangoli for Fredrick Ndaka.

The changes paid off five minutes into the second half as Austine Ikkena’s cross landed on Emmanuel Ngama whose effort to beat Gor keeper being defected on perfect midfield strings of passes made their way to Jacob Keli lurched on Ngama’s saved shot to equalize the score.

Both teams wasted several chances after thae goal with the game ending at 1-1. The draw moves Gor Mahia clear top with 13 points, one more than second-placed Western Stima. AFC Leopards lie 8th with 9 points.
