Gor Mahia sign Malian keeper Adama

Gor Mahia have completed the signing of Mali international goalkeeper Adama Keita on a two-year contract.

Keita has previously played for CI Kamsar in Guinea, Djoliba AC, and Cercle Olympique Bamako both in Mali.

However, Club Sports director Lordvic  Aduda has said the Malian was due for medicals today but inside sources indicate that he has been signed on a two-year deal.

‘’He is one of those on our radar and he is on with medicals today.  We are likely to sign him before the CAF deadline,’’ said Aduda.

The deadline for signing players to feature at the continental level is August 15 at midnight. His arrival means two goalkeepers will be dropped from the current for including Boniface Oluoch, Samwel Njau, Gad Mathews and Caleb Omondi.

In an earlier interview, club Assistant coach Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ indicated that the new coach Mark Harrison is only comfortable with three shot-stoppers for next season. The arrival of Adama now means two, who will be decided by the technical bench, must be axed.

‘’Our coach is only comfortable with three goalkeepers. We are less in many areas and the reorganization between the sticks will give us the chance to fill the gaps we have identified,’’ said ‘Pamzo’.

In the run-up to the CAF recruitment deadline tomorrow midnight, Gor is also expected to recruit more players to cover the defense and the midfield positions left by Charles Momanyi and Kenneth Muguna.

The sports director said this recruitment is crucial since CAF Confederations Cup tournament is so tricky as compared to the CAF Champions League.

‘’We need players. For the CAF Champions League, you can be dropped to feature at the CAF Confederations depending on how far you go but if you fail at the CAF Confederations level, you will have to wait for another season.’’

All eyes are on the CAF Confederations having failed to defend their record League title. Gor will be looking at reclaiming the title they last won in 1987, then known as Nelson Mandela Cup. It is the only team in the CECAFA region to have lifted the regional trophy.

By midnight August 15, according to Aduda, Gor will have made known all their new signings that will feature at the continental level.
