Gor Mahia to unveil Finish Steven Pollack as new head coach

Gor Mahia will on Friday unveil English-Finish tactician Steven Pollack as their new head coach.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier says the former Asante Kotoko tactician is among the 50 candidates who applied for head coach position last year when Briton Dylan Kerr resigned but came third in the interviews.

In the meantime, Rachier has accepted the resignation of former coach Hassan Oktay who led the club for one season. Oktay had requested for five days off to attend to personal matters at home in Turkey and was expected back yesterday but opted to resign citing personal challenges.

“Yesterday we received an official resignation letter from Hassan Oktay, because of  family issues which he had asked the club for permission to solve them.

“After the resignation we have made calls in search of a new coach who has since agreed to come over to agree on terms but up to now we have not agreed on any terms but we aim on sealing the deal and unveil him on Friday,” he said

The new coach will lead Gor Mahia in their CAF assignment this weekend against the Blavk Eagles in Bujumbura, Burundi this Sunday before hosting them next week at Kasarani.

Pollack is a former head coach of Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko and has coached several clubs in Europe and West Africa including FC Inter Turku in Finland as well as Berekum Chelsea FC in Ghana.

The 58-year-old is best remembered for guiding Berekum to the domestic cup title when they won the Ghana President Cup in the 2016/17 season.
