Gor not to blame for Ochiengs failed move to Zambia: Rachier

Gor Mahia writer

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has distanced himself from allegations that the club delayed in issuing a release letter to defender Wellington Ochieng’ hence crippling his dream of  joining  NAPSA Stars in the Zambian Premier League.

Rachier says Wellington approached his office for the release letter last Thursday, a day before the close of the transfer window in Zambia.

According to Rachier, they nonetheless issued the right-back with a release letter but he failed to travel due to logistical issues, leaving his career in a mess.

“I admit the first letter we gave him showed he owed us nothing. But when he came back for the correction, we did the letter the same day and handed it over to him. That is when he told us he would travel the following day to Zambia. It is not our fault,” explained Rachier.

The club boss added that it is the obligation of every player to request for a transfer letter after getting the release communication and as a club, they did not know whether he intended to join another club or was intent on hanging up his boots.

“Every other player released came for their letters and were given, just as was Ochieng – but they came early. Ochieng thus cannot blame us.”

Ochieng was set to join compatriot Timothy Otieno in the Zambian outfit but the deal has seemingly hit a snag, leaving him with a tough decision to make as he has to sort his future, soonest.

Meanwhile Citizen Digital has learnt that the Gor executive will meet Tuesday to deliberate on the fate of Lawrence Juma who decamped to Sofapaka despite having a running contract. This  even as the chairman declined to comment on the matter saying they will communicate at the’ right time’.

The club is reportedly keen to have Juma sanctioned for breaching his contractual terms by decamping to ‘Batoto ba Mungu.

Sources have intimated to Citizen that he had three months left on his Gor deal.
