Gor out to reinvent form as Mathare aims to maintain lead

While Gor Mahia will be out to atone for its poor start to the 2018/19 Kenyan Premier League when they host Chemelil Sugar in a late-kick off match at the Kenyatta  Stadium, Machakos on Wednesday, log leaders Mathare United will be aiming at stretching their lead at the summit of the standings to 13 points.

Gor have uncharacteristically started on a sloppy note being kicked out of the lucrative Caf- Champions League by Lobi Stars of Nigeria on an away goal rule after a 3-3 aggregate draw and on the domestic front, their form hasn’t been admirable, losing 1-0 to Kariobangi Sharks in their last league assignment.

Meanwhile, the  ‘Slum Boys’ who last won the gong in 2008 are on 10 points from four matches and victory over a dismally performing Kenya Commercial Bank(KCB) at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani will haul their points tally to 13.

Sharks, placed second on the grid, on 8 points, from 4 matches, could go up to 11 points with victory over Mount Kenya United in a 1.30pm kick off match in Machakos, before paving way for Hassan Oktay’s Gor Mahia to battle Chemelil .

Other matches will see Zoo Kericho play host to last season’s runners up Bandari at the Kericho Green Stadium, as AFC Leopards make the four-hour road trip to Nakuru, north west of Nairobi to battle Posta Rangers.

Leopards, like Gor, have had a wobbly start to the season, suffering a chastening 3-0 defeat at Kakamega Homeboyz three weeks ago, and will be keen to get their campaign roaring when they battle an out-of-sorts Rangers.

Elsewhere, unbeaten Western Stima who have had a stormy start after re-admission to the KPL after a season in the National Super League, will welcome an enterprising  Sofapaka at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu bullish of extending their jigsaw.

On 10 points, Stima can go top in the event that leaders Mathare fail to get maximum points from KCB.
