Gor overcome Homeboyz after late Silva winner

Wilson Silva scored in stoppage time as Gor Mahia FC clinched a 2-1 comeback victory over Kakamega HomeBoyz during Wednesday’s FKF Premier League clash at the Bukhungu Stadium.

Homeboyz took an early lead through Chris Masinza who punished a clearance error from goalkeeper Bonface Oluoch and Silva missed a golden chance to level the score before half time after he was thwarted from a one-on-one situation.

Samuel Onyango came close again for the visitors who trailed 1-0 at the break but finally found the equaliser in the in the 56th minute when substitute Tito Okello turning home from John Macharia’s pass.

The champions continued to press with captain Kenneth Muguna and Okello combining well as they searched for the winner.

Homeboyz were reduced to 10 men with 17 minutes to play after defender Thomas Wainaina was sent off for headbutting Samuel Onyango.

Gor made their advantage count as Silva nodded the winner two minutes into added time.

Gor coach Carlos Pinto said the goal is a big boost to the striker’s confidence.

“He has been working hard in training and the fruits have been seen with his first start in the league. He is still adopting so he will be an important player for us these season,” said Pinto.

The result was Gor’s first win in four matches across all competitions and moved them into eighth on the standings with 19 points after 11 matches. Homeboyz remain 13th on 15 points after 13 matches.
