Gor set Rwanda travel date for CAF match

Gor Mahia are expected to jet out on Wednesday for Kigali for the CAF Champions League first leg preliminary tie against Rwandan giants APR.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier says upon arrival in Kigali, they will be quarantined for 24 hours in a hotel where they will undergo mandatory Covid 19 tests whose results will determine who will feature in the match and those who will board the next flight home.

“We have been told by Rwandan authorities that we will undergo mandatory Covid-19 tests before leaving our hotel. They are categorical that anyone who test positive will board the next flight home,’’ said the chairman.

The locals giants will travel with their Brazilian coach Roberto Oliveira despite being barred by the Confederation of African Football(CAF) from sitting on the bench as he does not have the requisite coaching license to take charge of the match.

Due to this K’Ogalo have sounded out Posta Rangers head coach Sammy’ Pamzo’ Omollo to take charge of the CAF matches.

Rachier however says they are concerned about the latest development by CAF saying Roberto was in charge of a CAF Confederations match on August 2018 against Gor Mahia at Kasarani, with the same category of license, that time in charge of Rwandan side Rayon Sport.

“We are seeking further clarification from CAF on what should be done. We hope things will be sorted out soonest and have our coach back in charge,” he lamented.

At the same time Rachier thanked Posta Rangers and coach Sammy Omollo “Pamzo’” for accepting to assist Gor during the CAF duty.

“We consulted amongst ourselves then approached Rangers chair John Tonui who gave us a nod. According to Tonui, representing the country is like a national duty hence he could not deny Omollo that opportunity to assist Gor,” added Rachier.

Rachier hinted that Omollo will be in charge of CAF matches until such a time when the license mess will have been addressed.

The long serving chairman also took issue with Football Kenya Federation for threatening to relegate them from the FKF Premier League for failing to acknowledge the betting firm sponsorship of the league.

Rachier has boldly told off FKF chief Nick Mwendwa to stop threats, calling for sobriety.
