Gor squander a two-goal advantage to draw with Chemelil

Champions Gor Mahia uncharacteristically goofed in Wednesday’s mid-week league fixture surrendering a healthy two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with defiant Chemelil Sugar in Awasi.

Humphrey Ochieng Mieno put K’Ogalo ahead in the fourth minute while Ivorian Guikan Ephrem added the second in the 27th minute.

By this time, the crowd had anticipated another routine win for the men in green but the game turned on its head as Chemelil clawed back to level. Gor’s first choice custodian Boniface Oluoch was given marching orders to the locker room to reduce K’Ogalo to ten men, which saw the millers utilize the chance to score two goals in the 69th and 74th minute through Charles Okeya and Benedicto Mwanalanga respectively.

At the Camp Toyoyo ground in Nairobi, the fiery coach Robert Matano had a winning start as the brewers beat Wazito 1-0, with Robert Achema scoring the all- important goal, while at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa, Bandari were held out to a a 2-2 draw by visiting Zoo.

William Wadri netted in the 11th minute for Bandari but Nicholas Kipkirui restored parity for the Kericho boys in the 17th minute. Key man Michael Madoya thought he had hauled Zoo into the lead in the 26th minute but was ruled offside, making amends eight minutes later.

Zoo’s lead was not to stand though as Nicholas Meja scored a late goal for the dockers to claim a point at home.
