Gor stare at CAF sanctions after Zambia drama

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia are staring at possible sanctions from the continental football body CAF after Sunday’s CAF Confederations Cup return leg playoff match against Napsa Stars of Zambia ended on a tempestuous note with Gor players haranguing match referee.

Leading 2-1 with just additional time left to play, match referee awarded the hosts a penalty which they converted for a 2-2 draw to bundle Gor out of the competition on an away goal rule and irate KÓgalo players protested at the whistle by shoving the match official.

In the dressing room, Citizen Digital has also gathered that the fuming players destroyed property.

“It was not good a good scene, the players were so furious. They harrased the match referee but also destroyed property,” a source close to the team told Citizen Digital.

Club Secretary General Sam Ochola and Treasurer Dolphina Odhiambo led the Gor delegation to Zambia.

CAF is thus expected to sanction Gor in the coming weeks, the gravity of it will however depend on the match commissioner and referee’s reports.

The Kenyan champions jetted back Sunday at 10pm, shortly after the game.
