Gor thrash Leopards to lift inaugural Super Cup title

Gor Mahia FC became the first ever side to win the Super Cup title on Sunday when they thrashed archrivals AFC Leopards 3-0 at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The record Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions are the only side of the eight that were involved in the tournament not to have gone through penalty shootouts and they made their dominance count with an emphatic victory at Tanzania’s largest city.

The win means K’Ogalo add yet another glittering trophy to their cabinet and walk away with approximately KSh3m in prize money.

To cap it all, they get the chance to play nine-time English Premier League winners Everton FC  on June 13 at the National Stadium in the same city.

Goals from Timothy Otieno and substitutes Oliver Maloba and John Ndirangu condemned Ingwe to painful defeat in the Mashemeji Derby played over 900km away from home where these two sides have so often produced Kenya’s most cheered football.

The Leopards thus settled for the just over KSh1m allocated for runners-up position.
