Gor thrash Zoo as Tuyisenge turns up golden boot heat

Gor Mahia FC swatted aside Zoo Kericho FC 4-1 for their first win in six matches as Jacques Tuyisenge seized the chance to go joint-top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) golden boot race.

Tuyisenge’s 33rd minute strike saw him join Eric Kapaito and Elvis Rupia on top of the goalscoring charts with 15 goals apiece, taking the neck to neck to neck race down to the wire.

Having scored Zoo’s consolation for his 14th of the season, midfielder Mike Madoya blasted a late penalty wide to squander his chance to claim a share of the top in the penultimate round.

Gor, coming off Sunday’s title coronation party, went ahead after the first quarter-hour when defender Wesley Onguso rifled home the opener after some neat work down the left flank.

Zoo responded through Madoya as the reigning KPL Most Valuable Player turned in Bernard Odhiambo’s cross for the equaliser. That deadlock was broken just two minutes later as Tuyisenge tapped in Francis Mustafa’s lay-off.

Wellington Ochieng gave Gor the insurance goal with a thumping header, rising highest to power home Francis Kahata’s free-kick to cap a rapid first half.

Tuyisenge turned provider three minutes after restart, slipping through Bernard Ondiek to complete the rout but there was still time for Madoya to miss from the spot after he had been hacked down inside the area.

Gor finish off their campaign with a trip to Tusker while Zoo entertain Sofapaka FC at the Green Stadium.
