Gor treated to lunch date, receive cash donation

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC were Saturday treated to a luncheon in Nairobi by city lawyer Eliud Owalo and handed a Sh250,000 cheque to cushion the club against the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Owalo challenged the team management to venture into more avenues of generating money to enable the club sustain itself financially other than depending mostly on gate collections.

Out of the that figure Sh200,000 will be shared equally among all the team players while the rest has been reserved for the technical bench.

While receiving the grant, club chairman Ambrose Rachier thanked him and invited corporates to invest in sport.

‘’We are so grateful for this donation and this is a true sign of the long standing friendship between you and the club,” Rachier said.

Team manager Jolawi Obondo on his part thanked the players and technical bench for the discipline they have shown during the hard times, going without pay and allowances for a number of months .

Jolawi said when the situation resume to normalcy, all the current problems will be history.

Gor’s fate still hungs in the balance after their declaration as this season’s champions was challenged at the Sports Distribute Tribunal by the KPL limited.

Gor recently signed a Sh55 million-a-year sponsorship deal with a betting firm that will soon roll out operations in the country.
