Gor trio snub Stars as Super Cup comes calling

Three Gor Mahia FC players, Harun Shakava, Kenneth Muguna and Timothy Otieno will not contest contest for national team selection for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Sierra Leone on June 10.

Of the three, First Coach Stanley Okumbi said, only Shakava sought permission to be allowed to travel to with his club for the forthcoming Super Cup tournament in Tanzania while both his teammates neither showed up nor explained their absence.

Only skipper Musa Mohammed, goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch and midfielder Ernest Wendo heeded Okumbi’s call to the national team call up from the Gor camp with Kenyan teams travelling Tanzania on Friday.

Gor are among three others, Tusker FC, AFC Leopards and Nakuru All Stars that will battle four Tanzanian teams for a chance to face nine-time English Premier League champions Everton FC on June 13.

Stars Coach Okumbi who is on the back of 10 unbeaten matches meanwhile tipped his charges to take the country beyond position 74 in the World Fifa Rankings after climbing up four places in the latest release by the world governing body.

Kenya is placed in Group F alongside Ghana Ethiopia and Sierra Leone and will be bidding to qualify for a major international tournament since the 2004 AFCON.
