Gor, Ulinzi set for Independence Cup face-off

Gor Mahia are set to face off with Ulinzi Stars in their first FKF Premier League match which will also be used as a duel for Jamhuri Day Cup.

The two teams are yet to play a single league match this season following the ongoing tussle between them and FKF over the endorsement of broadcast rights with StarTimes Media.

Each time will be aiming for a double, collecting its first three league points as well as lifting the first trophy of the season.

The match initially scheduled to be played at Utalii Grounds has been switched to Nyayo stadium. Gor will also use this match as a build up to their next CAF Champions League assignment against CR Belouiizdad on December 22 in Algiers.

Gor chairman Ambrose Rachier remains adamant that the signature obtained by StarTimes is null and void saying they did not authorize suspended Secretary General Sam Ocholla to act on behalf of the club.

On the other hand, Ulinzi were given more days to sign to the broadcast rights or else face an axe from the top tier league.

On Thursday, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier said their position on broadcast rights is clear and dared the federation to relegate Gor over their stand.

He noted his readiness to face any kind of disciplinary action by the federation saying however that he will stand firm and defend Gor Mahia.
