Gor unsure they are cleared for Kagame Cup

Gor Mahia FC have said they are uncertain they will participate at the 2019 Cecafa Kagame Cup after it emerged the suspension imposed on them last year has yet to be lifted.

Gor were handed a two-year ban for skipping the medal ceremony during the previous edition held in Tanzania and were to also forfeit their KSh1 million prize money for the act.

While organisers CECAFA later said the issue had been resolved, Gor’s deputy secretary general Ronald Ngala says they have not received any communication regarding their participation from the regional federation.

‘’We are still waiting for communication from the federation as to whether we are eligible on not. But the prize money of Ksh. 1 million which we were entitled to was wired into our account and so we are hopeful we were pardoned, only awaiting a nod,” Ngala said.

Cecafa had indicated that they had  pardoned Gor Mahia for ‘acts of indiscipline’ portrayed by the club during the last Cecafa Kagame Cup in Tanzania.

Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye confirmed that they had wired the ten thousand dollars to Gor account for finishing third but did not specify whether the ban was also lifted.

The tournament comes at a time when the continental show piece AFCON will be on in Egypt with Kenyan defence boasting of  two Gor Mahia players Philemon Otieno and Joash Onyango with Francis Kahata in the midfield.

This, Ngala says will not affect the club’s delivery should they be given a nod to represent the country in CECAFA saying the they have a fringe  of experienced players who can do duty for the club and the country.

‘’The absence of the three players in the national team cannot affect our delivery should we be given a go ahead to represent Kenya in Rwanda. We have enough players and can still deliver even without them’’.

Categorically, Gor Mahia are supposed to be the Kenyan representatives in the regional tournament courtesy of their league win in the just ended season, but they will have to wait for a clearance from CECAFA following the earlier ban.
