Gor’s Batambuze embarks on recovery path after going under the knife

Reliable Gor Mahia defender Shafiq Batambuze has embarked on the recovery path after undergoing a surgery on his knee.

Batambuze picked the injury three months ago against Burundian champions Aigle Noir in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Confirming the development, the club has said that the Ugandan international will be discharged this Friday.

“Batambuze has undergone a successful operation, and has a great chance of playing in the second half of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season. It will take him about two to four months to heal properly depending on his body’s response to medication. We are happy and wish him a quick recovery,” club assistant secretary Ronald Ngala, said.

Gor however did not contribute any coin towards the players’ operation due to their own financial handicap, with the players owed salary arrears and staggering bonuses.

Citizen Digital has learnt that the procedure cost around Sh400, 000 which was raised by fans and well-wishers via Paybill Number.

“It does not matter where the money came from; whether it was from Gor Mahia or any other source. The most important thing is the player has been treated…,” Ngala concluded.

In Batambuze’s absence, Geoffrey Ochieng has ably filled the void at left back, establishing himself in the first team.
