Gor’s electoral board start verification process ahead of August polls

Gor Mahia electoral board says its undertaking due diligence to verify with  higher institutions of learning the degree certificates of applicants vying for the elective seats in the club’s elections primed for August 8.

The board secretary Kennedy Mbara says a number of applicants have submitted their papers ahead of Friday’s 4pm deadline, adding that they will be through with the verification process by close of business Saturday.

The posts up for grabs are Vice chairman, secretary general and honorary treasurer.

“By the close of business tomorrow (Saturday), we shall have completed the verification process before releasing the final list of contestants. Any degree paper rejected by the alleged institution of issue will lead to disqualification of candidates’’, revealed Mbara.

According to Mbara, other than the outgoing secretary general Ben Omondi, most of the outgoing office bearers have submitted their papers with the outgoing treasurer Sally Bolo vying for the vice chairman post.

Mbara says the election will be free and fair adding that so far no body has come forward to challenge long serving chairman Ambrose Rachier for the top post. He has served at the helm of the club for the last 16 years.

Meanwhile, the board secretary reaffirmed that the degree cut off rule for all aspirants will not be rescinded.

“There will be a window for complaint for any candidate who will feel disgruntled and the board will listen keenly to any grievances.

‘’Any aspirant who will present academic short of the stipulated degree cut off will be turned away. That is because we are working in accordance with the club constitution,” he added.

Outgoing treasurer Sally Bolo and  Francis Wasuna will face off for the vice chair post with Ronald Ngala and Sam Ochola battling for the secretary general post.

The honorary treasurer post has attracted aspirants such as Crispine Okoth, Dolfina Onduto and Victor Mbaka. Outspoken Gor Mahia critic Judith Nyangi has reportedly not submitted her papers for nomination with the degree cut off seemingly locking her out.
