Gors Kerr warns flippant Oluoch ahead of 2018 season

Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch may end up losing his number one spot at K’Ogalo in the 2018 season, according to head coach Dylan Kerr.

Oluoch, who has been Gor and Stars first choice custodian for two years up to last season, has been termed as flippant in training by the coach, giving his long-time understudy Fredrick Odhiambo an upper hand over him.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kerr said there is no room for complacency in the club, players’ past record notwithstanding.

“He is so casual in training and you never know when he is serious. It is very easy to translate such laxity to the main field of play and this can cost the club,’’ said the Englishman who took over from Marcello Ferreira midway the 2017 season.

The coach says if Oluoch cannot change the trend, Odhiambo and third choice custodian Shaban Odhoji are ready for the number one jersey, noting there are no special cases in his squad.

“Even before the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, I could see Matasi (Patrick) being preferred by the national team head coach to Oluoch, and it came to pass. Oluoch is a good goalkeeper but he lacks seriousness in training. You never know when it translates in a competitive match,” added the coach.

The tactician was full of praise for Odhiambo, adding that competition between him and Odhoji is a good gesture at a time he wants maximum concentration.

The coach, who jetted back to the country last week from holiday in Britain, said that he learnt a lot from English Premier League (EPL) leaders Manchester City during his holiday where he witnessed several training sessions at Etihad, thus promising Gor fans fireworks come next season.

He was also full of praise for Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi, who makes a comeback to the team after exiting the 16-time national champions in 2014. Kerr says, that the immediate former Police FC player has a place in the first team if he maintains the focus he has shown so far.

”All my new signings are very impressive and their dedication during training will be the determinant factor when it comes to fielding. No one will have a permanent position as all players are proving their might,” underscored Kerr.

Besides the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and local FA Cup, Gor has the Cecafa Club Championship (Kagame Cup) slated for Djibouti later in the year and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League assignments.
