Gov’t ban on sports a blow to our title plans, says Warriors coach Balozi

Ulinzi Warriors’ head coach William Balozi has bemoaned the government’s ban on all sporting activities noting that it will greatly affect the team’s plans of retaining the men’s basketball league title.

Due to the ban, Balozi says his team has closed shop, shutting down training until further notice.

“It has affected us badly but we need to accept because it’s a presidential order and we have nothing we can do about it. We will have to wait for further communication but for now we have put on hold team training,” he said.

On his part part, team captain John Washika says the move will affect squad chemistry, but was quick to add that they’ll focus on individual training.

“We were really focused on getting the teamwork back because  fitness and team chemistry was good. The sudden stoppage of the league has really slowed us down especially after preparing so much for the league and the international assignments,” he explained.  “As players we are not going to lay off but rather we will try as much as possible to carry personal fitness so that when we get back together we are good to go and ready for the games.”

The soldiers had played five games, winning four, – against Blades, Eldonets, KCA University and Umoja while losing one – against Lakeside. They were to play Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) last weekend, before the ban.
