Gracious Lungaho concedes defeat, shifts focus on nurturing young talent

Kenya Prisons coach David Lung’aho has admitted that his charges were outclassed on Tuesday night by defending champions Carthage of Tunisia in the semi-finals of the  CAVB Women’s African Club Volleyball Championship in Cairo, Egypt.

Prisons fell 3-1, the defeat ending their dream of bagging the title for the sixth time.

And in an interview with Citizen Digital, Lung’aho said that he will have to work on their mistakes as they aim to bring back the lost glory in next year’s edition.

“For sure Carthage was very tough and we have fought a good fight despite losing. We had good ideas but luck was not on our side,” he said. “Our weakness was in the reception. We have a lot of work to do in this area and we will duel more on that when we get back home,” Lung’aho whose charges face Pipeline in the bronze play-offs on Thursday before boarding a plane to Nairobi, said.

At the same time, Lung’aho was full of praise for the new blood in his squad noting that the young faces in the team are the future as they aim to end the dominance of North African teams.

“My focus will now be on the young players who have shown their prowess in this year’s championship and that’s the only way we can counter the might the North Africans are posing now,” noted Lungáho, whose side will face Pipeline again in the league opening match on March 23 in Bungoma
