Groves defends WBA super-middleweight title
George Groves successfully defended his WBA super-middleweight title on Saturday, outpointing British rival Chris Eubank Jr despite suffering a shoulder injury late in the bout.
The judges scored the fight 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113 for a unanimous decision in favour of 30-year-old Groves.
Eubank Jr’s challenge was hampered when he suffered a heavy cut to his right eye in the third round.
“I’m very happy with the performance. My shoulder is very sore, but I wasn’t going to let anything beat me tonight,” Groves told ITV Box Office.
“I’d already hurt him before the cut. The better man won, but credit to him for getting through the match because I hurt him a lot. He dug it out.”
