GSU cock their guns to defend Police Rifle title

General Service Unit (GSU) are out to defend their Police Service Rifle Meeting title when the 2016 running of the event proper kicks off at the Anti Stock Theft Rifle Range in Gilgil, Nakuru County on Thursday.

Action shot off on Sunday with ‘check check zero’ where contestants are given three days to test their rifles and warm up for the event with the pistol Short Range practice also taking place.

The meeting proper begins with a pre-qualification shoot of 200m Full Bore range, where all shooters are expected to take part on Thursday morning.

This year’s event will bring together men and women from the National Police Service, with 21 departments of the Regular Police and 13 from the Administration Police.

The dreaded GSU won last year’s even with ease followed by this year’s hosts the Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and Kenya Police College who took third ahead of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The Presidential Escort Unit finished fifth last year, but team Captain Edward Legei, believes this year his men will be able to challenge for the title.

“Last year we were not lucky, but this time round we are well prepared. I know we will face stiff challenge from GSU, ASTU and DCI but I tell you we are ready,” Legei who is also a former Full Bore Kenyan Team Captain said.
