Harambee Starlets head coach Charles Okere is satisfied with the talent search exercise in Mombasa as the quest to bolster his squad with quality players continues.

The exercise that took place at Mbaraki stadium will successful youngsters represent Kenya in upcoming international assignments with Okere saying, he is satisfied with the process so far – with Coastal region, Nairobi and Nakuru all covered.

“I started the search for new talented girls in Nairobi before going to Nakuru to put in place a provisional list for every county which will eventually be trimmed to 30 players who will go into camp

“If we have a strong foundation at the grassroots, that’s how we can get good players. For instance, in Mombasa, a course for level C CAF licensing is going on and this will go a long way in making sure we get the best training,” said Okere.

In attendance during the Mombasa talent search, was the top scorer of Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League 2020-21 Mwanahalima Adam who was impressed with the process.

“The selection went on well… I congratulate the coaches who despite a large number of girls, managed to handle the process well and with fairness. They selected the best players with ease because of the experience they have,” said Mwanahalima.

Charles Okere inherited the mantle from David Ouma and is now being assisted by Godfrey Oduor and Mildred Cheche.

When he was appointed, Okere said he was aware of the huge responsibility placed on him but assured football lovers he was willing to go a step further to steer the Starlets to unexplored heights.

Okere used to deputise veteran tactician Robert Matano at Tusker FC before his elevation to the national women team.
