Harambee Stars begin CECAFA campaign with win against Uganda

Kenya’s Harambee Stars began their CECAFA campaign with a win against Uganda Cranes in a match played at the Nation Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Kenyan side put behind them the pain of being bundled out of World Cup qualifiers to give a spirited display against their neighbours with goals from Jacob Keli in the 22nd minute and Michael Olunga in the 49th minute giving the stars a stellar start to the campaign.

The win is Kenya’s first in eleven matches against Uganda Cranes and places them top of Group B.

Kenya is pooled in what has been seen as the ‘Group of death’ together with Uganda, Burundi and Zanzibar.

Harambee Stars, who only needed a draw to qualify for the group stages of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, were bundled out of the competition after losing 2-0 to Cape Verde last week.
