Harambee Stars drops two places in latest FIFA rankings

A quiet month of international football has resulted in Kenya’s national football team dropping from position 86 in the month of July to 88 in the latest largely static FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking, with no movement whatsoever in the top 20.

Kenya was ranked position 129 in June, though the last time it was ranked high in the rankings was in 2008 when the national team ranked position 68.

July improvement for the Stars could be credited with their 2-1 victory against Congo during the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier in Nairobi.

Uganda is the highest ranked them in East Africa going up by four positions to 65, followed by Kenya with Rwanda dropping twelve positions to 121 and Tanzania going down to 124 from 123 in the month of July.

Algeria is the highest-ranked African team at position 32 followed by Ghana at 35, up by one place and changing positions with Ivory Coast at 36.

After the significant changes that arose last month from the various continental championships, their has been no movement whatsoever in the top 20 with Argentina remaining top, followed closely by Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.

Just two international matches, both friendlies, have been played since the July Ranking, meaning that the changes that have taken place are generally minor.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 15 September 2016.
In the world, Argentina is top followed by Belgium and Colombia with the new European Champions Portugal at position 6.
