Harambee Stars in nervous wait over Olunga Covid-19 test

The national football team Harambee Stars face a nervous wait on the availability of lead striker Michael Olunga who underwent a Covid-19 test alongside his Keshiwa Reysol team mates.

The results are expected later today. Should the results come out positive it could mean that the Stars could miss Olunga for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier double header against Comoros.

The Stars host Comoros in Nairobi on November 11 in the first leg before facing them, four days later, on November 15 in Moroni and Olunga’s participation will be key for the team.

The test by the entire Reysol team was necessitated after team head coach Nelsinho Baptista tested positive for the virus and two other members of Olunga’s Kashiwa Reysol club have also been infected with the virus.

“Let’s be patient with Olunga because they tested the whole team yesterday and they are waiting for the results today so we have to wait for the results so that we can know if he will be joining us for the qualifiers.

All our foreign based players will be tested for the virus before they leave their respective countries if they are able to leave then they are negative,”said Mwendwa .

The president added that the first group of foreign based players are expected in the country tomorrow while the last batch will join up with the rest of the squad on Monday.

“We are expecting the first group of players tomorrow then the rest will arrive between Friday and Monday in readiness for the crucial match that we are hoping to get maximum points,”added the federation boss.
