Harambee Stars land Ksh498M sponsorship deal

Kenya national football team Harambee Stars has landed a Ksh498 million sponsorship deal from pay TV StarTimes.

The deal, which was signed Thursday morning in Nairobi, is set to run for five years and will see StarTimes market not only the Harambee Stars, but also all other national football teams including the age group teams.

StarTimes are also the rights holders of Harambee stars friendly matches, but the Pay TV Company will not be able to broadcast any matches for the Harambee stars in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as well as the World Cup qualifiers.

StarTimes will only broadcast friendly matches for the national team for the next five years.

Speaking during the signing of the deal, StarTimes Director of Sports Gary Rathbone said the deal demonstrates the company’s confidence and commitment in the Kenyan market.

“We are very excited to be the official media sponsors for Harambee Stars. As a brand, we are keen to see our success in the Kenyan market being reflected in the well-being of the Kenya national soccer team,” said Rathbone.

The Pay TV is set to air the first Harambee Stars match, a Confederation of African Nations Championship pitting Kenya against Ethiopia set for Saturday.
