Harambee Stars preps for Comoros tie to go on pending Caf directive

Harambee Stars  will continue with their itinerary in the run-up to March 25 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier unless the Confederation of African Football (CAF) advises otherwise.

FKF had on Tuesday written to Caf seeking to postpone the match, guided by the policy guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health in the wake of the coronavirus threat that is spreading across the globe like bush fire.

However on Wednesday, FKF through its Communications team said that until the continental soccer body gives the way forward, nothing changes in their preparations programme.

“We will continue to train as we had planned. We will also continue with all logistics involved including travel arrangements for our foreign based players. If and when CAF tells us to stop, we will comply,” FKF’s Ken Okaka said.

The team broke camp on Tuesday evening after two days of training uncertain of returning for next week’s sessions – Monday and Tuesday amidst coronavirus fear.

The 16 local based players were released by their clubs for the two-day residential camp, and are supposed to have similar sessions next week before their foreign based teammates link up with them.

The Ministry of Health directed all the conferences, meetings and events of international nature be stopped at least for a month, before new guidelines are given as a precaution for the fast spreading coronavirus.

Comoros is yet to react to the ongoing conversation regarding the match.
