Harlequins, Homeboyz clash put off as Kenya Cup resumes

Kenya Cup holders KCB RFC face an away trip to Strathmore Leos as they launch their title defence over the weekend.

The fixtures list as published by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) indicate the 2017/18 season will run through to March 17 next year with a number of enticing matches lined up on opening day.

Last season’s losing finalists Kabras Sugar will entertain Mwamba RFC at the Kakamega Grounds and will be banking on player coach Humphrey Khayange to tear down the visitors.

The would-be opening day highlight action between Kenya Harlequins and Homeboyz RFC has been postponed to a later date as the Deejayz will be attending their former captain Peter Wekesa’s burial in Lugari, Kakamega County.

Newly promoted Kisii RFC and Mombasa RFC face baptisms of fire as they take on seasoned Kenya Cup sides Top Fry Nakuru and Impala Saracens in their first top flight matches of the season.

Campus boys play Nondescripts at the KU grounds, with both teams keen to avoid defeat on day one.

Nondies have invaded Blad’s territory having signed key players from their camp including Moses Begi, Mark Ongayo and Franz Obudo with the trio expected to play a big role at their new club.

Blad will be keen to avoid the relegation disaster that befell their rivals Mean Machine with Levy Amunga expected to be the tormentor in chief for the Campus boys.

This season all games in the Kenya Cup will be played in a one off format to accommodate the early kick off of the 2018 Kenya 15s international season.

Championship sides will retain the two conferences format, six teams on each conference to play home and away within their conferences and a one off against each team of the other conference.

All matches will kick off at 4.00pm like it has always been unless otherwise stated by the Union.
