Harlequins outlast Bulls in Kenya Cup

Kenya Harlequins defeated Western Bulls 28-16 in a Kenya Cup match played at the Bull ring Kakamega on Saturday.

Dominique Habimana changes got a bonus point scoring five unconverted tries plus a penalty against Solomon Obiero charges two unconverted tries plus two penalties.

Quins scored tries through David Ambunya, Brighton Mwalawa, Dominic Osino, Boniface Ochieng and Willy Ambaka, winger Lyle Asiligwa adding a penalty while Boniface Ashiunda scored a brace Solomon Obiero adding two penalties.

The match started with a slow start each team kicking the ball to the opponents, but the host were the first to register three points, Solomon Obiero scoring a penalty in the 15th minute.

Harlequins Lyle Asiligwa replied with a penalty to make it 03-03 in the 18th minute.

David Ambunya scored the first try for Quins between the posts after a successful maul in the 20 th minutes Asiligwa missing the extras to bring the scores 08-03 for the visitors.

In the 35 minutes Quins got another successful maul this time Brighton Mwalawa writing his name in the score sheet but once again Asiligwa missed the conversion making it 13-03.

Bull’s number eight Obiero got a penalty outside the 21 metre yard but was unable to score in the 37th minute.

In the closing minutes of the first half Derrick Ashiunda got a pass from Brighton Bakasa after a successful counter attack scoring the first try for the host in the top right corner, Obiero missing the extras to make it 13-08 by half time

Experienced Dominic Osino scored his first try of the match for the Quins in the 45th minute, Asiligwa missing the extras to make it 18-08.

In the 48th minute Boniface Ochieng was escorted by a successful third maul from the visitors earning a bonus point but Asiligwa missed the conversion to make it 23-08.

Solomon Obiero scored his second penalty for his side in the 60th minute making it 11 -23.

The game stopped in the 68 th minute after Trevor Odundo got injured caused by a hard tackle from Shujaa international Willy Ambaka.

Ashiunda scored his second try in the 70th minute in the top left corner after two successful hand offs against their opponents but Obiero missed the conversion making it 16-23.

Ambaka registered his name in the score board at full time bringing the results 28-16.
