Hes a good lad with vast potential, Kerr hails Gors Mustapha

Gor Mahia’s head coach Dylan Kerr has hailed the impact of new signing Francis Mustapha noting that the youngster has a bright future at the glamour club.

Mustapha scored his first goal in a K’Ogalo shirt in his first start for the club, notching the winner in the 74th minute, as K’Ogalo edged Vipers SC of Uganda to sail to the semi-final of the Cecafa Kagame Cup.

The goal marked a turn-round for Gor who had begun the match on the wrong footing, conceding early before equalising through Jacques Tuyisenge and later claiming the win courtesy of Mustapha’s tap-in.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after the match here in Dar es Salaam, Kerr noted: “He(Mustapha) is a nice lad and something good to build on in the future.Once he strikes a good understanding with Jacques(Tuyisenge) and Blackberry(Odhiambo) he gonna become better.”

On this part, Mustapha who joins K’Ogalo from Kyovu FC of Rwanda was elated with his debut goal.

“I feel very good to have joined Gor Mahia and to score this goal,”he said.

Asked on whether he was ready to fill the huge gap left by Meddie Kagere who decamped to Simba SC of Tanzania, Mustapha was in no mood to be compared to the Rwandan saying he’s keen to curve his own niche.

He remarked: “I do not want to talk about Meddie. He has two legs and I have two legs too. I’ll make it, I have a good coach who will sharpen my skills in front of goal and I think I’ll score a lot of goals.”

Gor’s Sunday victory over a Vipers side that had amongst others, Danny Sserunkuma, in their ranks, hauled them to the semi-finals for the second time running after reaching the finals in 2015 where they lost 2-0 to Azam of Tanzania.

In the subsequent years, the competition was not held and Kerr will be hopeful of breaking Gor’s Cup hoodoo that has now stretched to 28 years.

In the meantime, Simba SC also sailed to the Cup semis after beating AS Ports of Djibouti on Sunday, with Mohamed Radhid scoring the all important goal.
