Homeboyz begin training ahead of league restart

Kakamega Homeboyz have begun team-training barely three days after President Uhuru Kenyatta opened the doors for sports return with the top tier Football Kenya Premier League expected to resume on May 12.

The Nicholas Muyoti coached side had their first squad session Monday at Bukhungu Stadium, the first time in two months as they race to be fit for action.

Club boss Cleopahs Shimanyula is however upbeat as the players, during the sports ban, had been busy with individual training.

“They have already started team-training and this began yesterday. They have been doing individual training in the last one week under the coaches’ manual,” Shimanyula said adding, “The boys are eager to return on the pitch and we expect a lot from them.”

Shimanyula is at the same time confident his boys will finish in a respectable position in the FKF-Premier League which he says  is still ‘open’ and any team in the top 10 can claim.

“We are very ripe and ready to roar in the league, you watch this space. Just wait for the league resumption …the team is sharp and this is because the boys have been on toes under the supervision of their coach.

Every player has been under the monitoring of the technical bench and so we are keen to make sure we finish in a respectable position…every team in the top 10 slot is capable of lifting it,” he charged.

Shimanyula has also hailed the Government for lifting the ban saying that lack of football is dangerous to players because of idleness.

Meanwhile, Homeboyz players have now started getting full salaries after it was sliced by 50% due to Covid-19 pandemic which hit the country last year, Shimanyula said.

“The boys are now getting full salaries and we want to thank our sponsors, a betting company,  for their one year renewable sponsorship which has helped a lot. The county government has not given us anything for now nine months,” added the Homeboyz boss.

The Kakamega based side is placed eighth on the grid on 21 points, 15 behind leaders Tusker.
