New signing Stephen Etyang got life at Kakamega Homeboyz off the mark in style when he scored the winner in their 1-0 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) victory over AFC Leopards at a packed the Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday.

At the Kericho Green Stadium, Zoo FC thrashed Chemelil Sugar 3-1 to get their season underway in style.

Benjamin Ochan was responsible for keeping the scoreline close for Leopards, pulling some magnificent stops to deny Homeboyz who made their attacking intention known right from the start

Peter Thiong’o was a constant threat on the Leopards defence in the opening half, driving at them at will yet it was the visitors who had the best chance of the opening half, Malian striker Ismaila Diarra failing to beat goalkeeper David Juma from a one-on-one situation.

In the second half Homeboyz coach Nicolas Muyoti made changes bringing in Shami Mwinyi for Peter Thiong’o while Leopards brought in Eugine Mukangula for wasteful Rwandese Habamahoro Vincent.

Etyang collected a fine cross in the 85th minute which came from the right to dribble carefully putting in on his favourite right leg to curve in to the right corner giving his side the only goal of the match at the expense of Leopards.

Leopards will leave to rue the chances they had in the dying minutes with strikers Brian Marita ,Vincent Oburu and Ismaila Diara the culprits.

With coach Mbungo starting his new signings Robert Mudenyu,Habamahoro Vincent ,Ndikumana Tresor and Ismaila Diarra, all but goalie Ochan failed to live to the expectation of fans.
