Homeboyz outclass Mwamba to retain Great Rift 10s title

Leonard Mugaisi bagged a brace as Menengai Cream Homeboyz defeated Stanbic Mwamba RFC to hold on to their Top Fry Great Rift title in Nakuru.

In a game played under wet conditions, at the “Suguta Valley” Homeboyz showed intent of lifting the coveted title from kick off with dangerman Mugaisi going under the whitewash twice with Charles Omondi converting both.

However Mwamba were not going to hand the win to the Deejays on a silver platter with newbie Micheal Oguga and Ken Andati Bonke partnering but to no avail heading to the intervals.

The Deejays leading 14-0 after the break flyhalf Mohammed Omollo side stepped Mwamba defender’s to punish them after they spilled the ball on the danger zone.

With Omondi adding the extras,New signing Kevin Wandera was put into space by Omollo prowess at the midfield to run over three Mwamba defender’s Helpless to score the fourth try and final effort of the game.

Mwamba RFC reached the Nakuru 10s final after beating Kabras Sugar 17-12 in extra time on Sunday April 1, 2018 with Mwamba flyhalf Bonke Atandi hero of the day.

Bonke picked the ball on the 22 yard to unexpecting Kabras defender’s who stood still and watched Bonke dive over the whitewash.

It’s Mwamba’s first cup final in any competition since Kabeberi 7s 2015.

The two sides tied 12-12 after the regular time only for ‘Bonke’ to score the all important try for Mwamba

The Deejays on the other hand beat tournament favourites and home team Menengai Oilers 22-5 in the first semi final.

In the third place playoff Oilers and Kabras did not play while hosts Top fry Nakuru were unlucky after going down 17-7to Kenya Harlequins

Impala soothed their wounds with a 10-0 win over Nondies in the Bowl finals to finish 13th in the 32 team log.
