Homeboyz RFC win Kitui Sevens title

Homeboyz RFC continued with their dominance in the short circuit after a 10-0 win over Mirrows Select in the second edition of the Kitui Sevens.

The Deejays through their experienced forwards scored two unconverted tries on the left wing to scoop this year’s edition and walk away with KSh500,000 in prize money.

The event which was sponsored by the County Government of Kitui in partnership with former Kenya Sevens tactician Benjamin Ayimba was in search of upcoming talent.

The Deejays, unbeaten in the tournament, beat Mirrows RFC select 10-0 to scoop the best men’s team overall award.

Menengai Queens were the ladies tournament winners after a 25-0 win over Impala ladies team to scoop the main Cup winner’s prize.

Black Pearl from Uganda won the 3rd place playoff to console their tender but brave hearts.

Hurricanes which was Homeboyzs Team ‘B’ managed a third place finish after a 33-0 hammering of Masaku RFC in the playoffs.

The County Governor Charity Ngilu was forced to revoke all tickets after residents decided to boycott the event terming it “expensive and corrupt”.

Ayimba in an interview with Citizen Digital was satisfied with the turn out and reception from Kitui residents and took the opportunity to thank them for their heart warming reception.

“Some of the teams we invited didn’t turn up for the occasion but we are satisfied with what we have been able to gather around, it can only get better, again Kitui has been kind and welcoming to us, it was worthwhile,”Ayimba said.

The winners each pocketed Sh 500,000, with the runner’s up scooping Sh 100,000 each.
