Homeboyz to challenge for KPL title: Muyoti
Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Nicholas Muyoti has declared that his side has all the ingredients to win the 2019/20 league title.
Homeboyz who sit second on the 17-team log are buoyed by a shock 2-1 win against champions Gor Mahia at Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday to move to within a point behind leaders Tusker FC.
Muyoti, a former AFC Leopards player believes that courtesy of their heroics against K’Ogalo, every team has taken note of their ability and will be plotting their downfall hence the need of his boys to be alert.
“After beating Gor Mahia now every team will want to beat us and so we need to take every match seriously. We need to maintain a top three position in the log as we aim to win this league.”
Muyoti attributed Homeboyz performances to the great support from the management, team work and fighting spirit.
“We know that it will not be an easy journey(to win the title) and so we want to stay focused now that the management has really supported us well,” he explained. “We want to thank our fans for supporting us on match days which is a huge motivation.”
At the same time Homeboyz are in negotiation with different clubs to offload a few players, and also hope to rope in others before the January transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
Muyoti joined the Kakamega based club in February last year, replacing Ugandan Paul Nkata, and has seemingly injected believe in the playing unit.
“Since I joined the club I felt that Homeboyz has quality players and so I let them understand that they have that ability to win the league trophy and that was consumed positively, ” he reckoned. “To beat the likes of Gor (Mahia) is not an easy task and that shows the spirit of my players.”
Homeboyz will meet Kariobangi Sharks in their next assignment at the MISC Kasarani Stadium on January 25.
