Homeboyz wants more from Wanga and its marquee signings

Kakamega Homeboyz team manager Boniface Imbenzi believes Allan Wanga, Noah Wafula and James Situma have more to offer the club as they chase a fifth place finish in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

The trio was signed at the start of the season on free transfers after they were expelled from Tusker FC during a purge that saw 11 other players released by the 10-time KPL champions.

Having endured a dry patch, Wanga’s form has been on the rise after the veteran striker scored twice in a row during the club’s home matches against Sony Sugar FC on Sunday and Gor Mahia FC last Wednesday.

“They have not pulled their best performance so far but we are hoping that things will be changing for better and the three will work with other players to make the club proud,” Imbenzi said.

Under the guidance of head coach Mike Mururi, Homeboyz are sat ninth on the KPL table, level on 20 points with Kariobangi Sharks although they have an inferior goal difference.

Imbenzi said the club is targeting at least 25 points during the second leg and will especially count on team work to achieve their goal.

“We have injected togetherness in the playing unit now that new players have been able to jell with the old ones and this should be a spring board to better results come the second leg,” Imbenzi said.

He also expressed optimism that the County Government will improve its sponsorship package of the club during the new financial year budget in the month of June.

“We hope one day players will be able to smile back home with improved allowances hence motivation won’t be something to discuss.”

Homeboyz play second-placed Mathare United on Saturday during round 16 of the KPL season.
