How Shujaa fell to Canada in last Pool B match

Shujaa were crushed 24-0 by Canada in their last Pool B match of the LA Sevens on Sunday 1st March 2020.

Andrew Amonde was sent to the sin-bin for a high tackle and in the two minutes he was out, Shujaa’s despite their efforts in holding their defense, Canada managed to cut through the spaces and land two corner post tries through Justin Douglas.

Canada led 10-0 at the breather. The second half saw Canada with the ball possession for the better part of the encounter testing Shujaa’s defensive skills but Shujaa was able to hold them off on a few occasions. With three minutes left on the clock, Canada gradually made their way to Shujaa’s red zone and this resulted in Douglas landing his third try right under the posts, Nathan Hiriyama adding the extras for a 17-0 score.

With just a minute and a few second left on the clock, Shujaa was unable to hold Canada’s attacking pace and the fourth try was scored by Phil Berna. Hiriyama’s conversion bringing the scores to 24-0 at full time.

Earlier on, in their second Pool B match, Shujaa won 29-12 against Ireland  after falling 31-05 toDubai Sevens champions South Africa but rose against Ireland.

Paul Feeney changes scored five tries converting two against Ireland two tries converting one.

Vincent Onyala scored three tries, Oscar Dennis and Kenya’s top try scorer in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Collins Injera adding one each.
