Hundreds turn up at Eldoret Hospital morgue to collect Bett’s body
Hundreds of mourners turned up at the Eldoret Hospital on Tuesday morning joining family members, friends and athletics officials as the body of the late athletics great Nicholas Bett was collected from the morgue ahead of tomorrow’s burial ceremony.
The mourners followed the proceedings closely as the remains of the of former 400m Hurdles world champion was wheeled to a hearse with the aid of police officers. Bett who died at the age of 28 was a police corporal.
At the morgue, wails of sorrow rented the air after the body was brought outside the morgue as reality dawned to family members that their illustrious son was no more.
Javelins star Julius Yego, who was one of the close friends of the deceased sat between Bett’s mother and his brother Haron Bett condoling them.
AK officials, senior and upcoming athletes led the procession along Eldoret town bringing business to a standstill.
National Police Service, his employers are in charge of the burial.
The burial ceremony initially set for Friday was brought forward upon the request of government officials.
Deputy president William Ruto and top government officials are expected at the burial.
