I have discovered good players from Stars’ friendlies – Migne

The national football team head coach Sebastian Migne has said the two friendly matches – against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea – have helped him discover good players in the team.

The newly appointed coach who replaced Paul Put marked his managerial debut on a losing note as Harambee Stars went down 0-1 to Swaziland last Friday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, but he bounced back to winning ways beating Guinea by a slender 1-0 win at the Kenyatta Stadium yesterday.

Migne cited Ovellah Ochieng and Mike Kibwage as the some of the stand-out talents after the duo gave towering displays in the matches.

The French man, in an interview with Citizen Digital, also hailed the performance of former Gor Mahia captain Musa Mohammed.

“I like the behavior of the team, nothing is perfect, we have a lot new players and I must study them well to get to know about their abilities, and this applies to local and international players.”

“If I compare a player like Ovellah Ochieng from the first match and second one, I can say he shined more yesterday as well as Mike Kibwage who was strong. This is the kind of spirit I want to promote in the team. I discovered Musa Mohammed after two days of training and I can say he is a good player too.”

Stars now shift their focus to the Intercontinental Cup to be played in India, as part of preparations for the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier match against Black Stars of Ghana in September, and coach Migne has said a lot have to be done before the journey to Mumbai.

“I have learned a lot from the two friendly matches, first I have to come up with my first team. Every player has got his own talent but not everyone will start in the first eleven. I have studied them well and now I will come up with a strong team for the India tournament,’’  Migne said, adding that, “We need to invest more on local players because not only the African Cup of Nation qualifier but we are eyeing global tournaments.”
