I’m ready to prove my worth, Man United recruit Anthony Martial

France under-21 international, and Manchester United’s newest recruit, Anthony Martial, who has been acquired by the English club for an undisclosed fee, said on Wednesday he was just out to “prove his worth”.

The fee for the 19-year-old, dubbed the new Thierry Henry despite barely 50 first-team games for the Ligue 1 side, was put at 36 million Sterling Pounds (USD 55.11 million) by British media and as high as 80 million Euros (USD 90.27 million) by French media.

“I don’t know if I’m worth 80 million, I’m not in charge of the amount, I’m going there for a sports project,” the 19-year-old said at a news conference at the France squad’s training centre.

“The amount is for the two clubs to decide. I’ve not put myself under any particular pressure apart from showing what I’m capable of doing on the field.”

Manchester United completed the signing of Martial from Monaco on Tuesday on a four-year deal.

Having been called up by Euro 2016 hosts France for friendlies against Portugal in Lisbon and Serbia in Bordeaux, Martial was allowed to leave the training camp to sign his contract on deadline day.

The 19-year-old scored nine goals in 35 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

“There are a lot of young players who have already gone to big clubs and some have been successful, others less so. It’s a challenge for me and I think I’m ready for it,” added Martial.

The former Monaco forward said his family was very happy with the news of his transfer.

“They were a bit scared for sure, given the amount of the transfer fee but I stayed in my bubble to remain concentrated and to prove my worth,” he said.

“Since I was very young, I was told I had the qualities to play in the English championship and now I’m quite looking forward to be able to evolve in this championship and to show my worth.”
