Impala “Floodies” kick off

The Rugby fifteens season kicks off Saturday with the Impala floodlights tournament at the Impala grounds in Nairobi.  The tournament begins in the quarterfinal stage with the main focus at club level.

The first quarterfinal pits Homeboyz RFC against Nondescripts who lifted the cup a few seasons ago. Since then, the White shirts have failed to clinch any silverware after their 2013 triumph.

The second quarterfinal will be a derby between two of Kenya’s top clubs.  The Ngong Road derby as its aptly known in the rugby circles will witness Kenya Harlequins and hosts Impala Saracens lock horns. The rivalry between the two neighbors is legendary and the passion from both sets of fans provides the perfect backdrop for the duel.

Nakuru who relinquished the Kenya cup title last season will be seeking to regain their winning form in the new season against an unpredictable Strathmore Leos.

Wanyore lifted the local sevens series title and the road to their second title of the season begins Saturday afternoon against Mitch Ocholla’s Leos.

The final quarterfinal will be between defending champions KCB against Mwamba. KCB blew away the opposition lifting the Kenya and Enterprise Cups last season; their vault undoubtedly still has room for more silverware.

The tournament will be played in 3 consecutive weekends with the final slated for October 31st.
