In-form Kabete take aim at Kiambiu in Super 8 clash

In form Kabete United will seek to break into the top four of the Super 8 Premier League on Sunday when they host unpredictable Kiambiu Youth FC in the highlight clash of the weekend at Kabete Grounds.

The game is one of eight fixtures on the cards in the Nairobi County estate competition.

After a rocky start to the season where they were rooted at the foot of the log resurgent Kabete who are sixth with nine points will be hoping to make it four wins on the bounce against the Eastern Conference side immediately below them on five.

Under mentorship of Peter Opiyo, Kabete survived the relegation last season but have steadily turned around their campaign after losing their opening two games.

The stunning 2-1 win over champions Kayole Asubuhi two weeks ago was a turning point for the West Conference side who have since floored Macmillan FC 2-0 at home before felling another Super 8 giant in the form of Jericho FC 2-1 last Saturday.

“Morale is high within the team especially after beating Jericho because it showed we are not where we were when we started the season and what is important for us is to keep improving with each game.

“We lost to Kiambiu last season but this is a different team. We have new players who bring in new energy so I am confident we will beat them,” Opiyo charged.

Hot on the heels of a morale boosting 3-1 home win over Ole Rongai FC last weekend, Raul Oduor’s Kiambiu head into the clash aiming to leapfrog their hosts.

Last season, Kiambiu were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in the first leg before they took maximum points in the second leg by humbling Kabete 2-1.

“We are ready for them. It is a matter of who will get the three points but from my assessment of how training session has been, I believe we will win this game.

“I know gaining three points away is not easy but the confidence is there, fitness also so I believe we are well prepared,” Oduor underscored.
