Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women basketball team captain, Brenda Angeshi says training alone has posed a major challenge.

Due to Covid- 19 pandemic, players have been forced to carry out personalized trainings and the KPA star reckons that this has been a tall order as she’s been accustomed to team workouts.

It’s not known when the basketball league will start with the outbreak of the virus throwing plans to have the competition begin two months ago into disarray.

“It’s hard to train on your own. But for the sake of the team you have to,” the experienced Angeshi explained.

The Mombasa-based player says she does the individual training for 30 minutes each morning, to keep fit, adding that she always keeps in touch with fellow players, coaches and team managers who advise her on her training itinerary.

The pandemic has hit sports hardest with many players struggling to cope, with no pay, and Angeshi reckons that it could get tougher moreso for her colleagues who depend on match appearances bonuses and winning allowances as they are not under permanent contracts.

“As much as we keep in touch with other players, it’s hard for them right now as most of them are not employees. These are really hard times for them but we try to keep each other’s spirits up,” she added.

For her part, team mate Hilda Indasi who is also the national team captain says training alone doesn’t compare to team training and she misses the latter.

“It’s less intense and of course boring but there’s need to,” she said of her personalized workouts.

The power shooting guard was the top scorer in last season’s league final series.
