Indiza leads team to Muthaiga victory

Dismas Indiza played a round of 36, to lead his team of Paul Gondi, Jacob Gathecha and Henry Njoroge to victory at the Muthaiga Safari Tour ProAm, on a combined score of 83.

Indiza who had failed to make the cut last week at the Thika Greens leg of the Safari tour, bounced back immediately, with the second best score among the pros.

The best pro score of the day was 37, by PGK captain, CJ Wangai, which saw him and his team consisting of Edie Kabera, Alex Gitari and George Njugu finish in second place with a combined score of 79, beating the team anchored by Royal Nairobi’s Hesbon Kutwa on count back.

Raj Shah walked away with a bottle of Singleton Whiskey, courtesy of the ProAm prizes sponsors Kenya Breweries Limited, after winning the nearest to the pin award. Nancy Ndungu and Muthaiga Golf Club Vice Captain Kushil Atwani took home a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Bullion for hitting the longest drives of the day.

Joseph Iracha took home the first nine award with 19 points, with Joseph Iracha taking the back nine award on 22 points.

Nancy Ndungu also took home the lady winner’s award, with Francis Mungai picking the Men’s winner accolade. Kushil Atwali took home the overall winner’s prize, playing a round of 40 points.

Speaking at the prize giving ceremony, Barclays Bank Chief Finance Officer, Yusuf Omari congratulated the winners as he mentioned that the company will continue to support to the sport of golf, “I want to congratulate the winners of today’s ProAm, over the last 10 years, we have worked with the Kenya Open Golf Limited to advance the quality of the game and profile the Kenya Open into a world class tournament. In November last year, we announced a Sh5.2 Million sponsorship of the Kenyan Pros through the Safari Tour Series.”

Round one action tees off at 7:30am, with a field of 52 players including eight amateurs all gunning for the Muthaiga Safari tour title.
